Lucknow: The screams of the people injured in the Barabanki accident of Uttar Pradesh raise questions before the officials trying to improve the traffic system. Four major road accidents in a short span of two days in the capital and adjoining Barabanki took away the lives of seven people. All these accidents occurred due to overspeeding or driving on the wrong side. Due to lack of strict action on the spot in such cases, accidents are happening continuously. The traffic police is issuing only e-challan in such cases. Recently work was on to register FIRs against those repeatedly overspeeding, but this process has also been stopped for the last two months.

Dr. Anand Kumar Chaudhary, resident of Sahara City Homes, IIM Road, educated his daughter Dikshanvita (26) and became a doctor. After completing her MBBS from KGMU, Dikshanvita started her apprenticeship from there. The family had cherished big dreams about their beloved daughter, but a person who was driving a truck recklessly without following the traffic rules, snatched away the happiness of the Choudhary family in a moment.

A speeding uncontrolled truck hit the tempo in front of PGI. In this accident, Rituraj Chaudhary (25), who had come from Motihari, Bihar to get his mother treated, and Krishna Prasad Gupta (62), who had come from Jharkhand to get his father treated, died.

In Nishatganj, a teenager who was learning to drive a car crushed two women with his car in the early hours of Tuesday. Both died.

The driver of a truck and his companion were burnt alive in a horrific collision between two trucks on the Outer Ring Road in Deva area of Barabanki.

According to Transport Department data, 482 people died in road accidents in the capital last year. 66.5% of road accidents in the entire state are happening only due to overspeeding. In this, 73,896 people died last year.

March 10, 2024: In the metropolis, a businessman hit a scooter and a cyclist with a speeding SUV, both of them lost their lives. The main reason for road accidents is overspeeding. Drivers speeding are being identified and challaned with the help of ITMS cameras. Traffic personnel are also issuing challan manually as per  a quote from Salman Taj Patil, DCP Traffic, Lucknow.
